How do you wash silk?
Preparation: Start by turning your silk bedding inside out and close the zipper. A laundry bag is also recommended.
Separation: Keep your silk bedding separate from other textiles, especially those with sharp zippers or hard materials that can scratch the silk.
Temperature: Use cold water to wash silk bedding. Hot water can damage the fibers and cause shrinkage or color loss. (30 degrees)
Mild detergent: Use a mild detergent intended for delicate fabrics. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the silk.
Hand wash or delicate cycle: You can either wash the silk bedding by hand or use a delicate cycle in your washing machine. If you use a washing machine, choose a gentle program with a low spin speed to avoid stretching or damaging the fabric.
Rinsing: When hand washing - rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. You can repeat the rinsing several times to make sure all the soap is gone.
Drying: Avoid wringing or stretching the silk bedding while drying. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and then let it air-dry on a flat surface or hang it on a hanger. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause discoloration.
Ironing: If necessary, you can iron your silk bedding at a low temperature, preferably inside out to avoid direct contact with the heat.
