Silk properties
Temperature regulation: Silk fibres naturally regulate temperature, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter. This can help improve sleep quality by maintaining a steady temperature throughout the night.
Comfort: Silk filling is soft and light, yet still supportive, providing a luxurious and pleasant sleep experience.
Antibacterial properties: Silk has natural antibacterial qualities that can help reduce the buildup of bacteria and allergens, which can be especially beneficial for people with allergies or asthma.
Silk is temperature regulating
Silk also has a temperature-regulating property, which guarantees that you maintain a comfortable temperature in the hot summer heat. If you suffer from sleep difficulties due to warm nights or itching and dry skin, silk is therefore ideal for you. Additionally, silk is known to be anti-allergenic, making it an obvious choice if you are allergic or suffer from asthma.

Understand what silk filling means
What is silk filling?
The difference between silk filling, cotton, and down
- Silk filling: Temperature-regulating, breathable, and moisture-repellent. Silk adapts to the body's temperature – cooling in summer and warm in winter. It does not clump and feels light and evenly spread throughout the pillow.
- Cotton filling: Dense and heavier. Cotton retains moisture well and can therefore feel warm and damp during the night.
- Down filling: Very airy and warm, but can clump together over time and lose shape. Down can also attract house dust mites and requires regular shaking and airing.
Short vs. long-fibred silk filling
- Long-fibred silk filling: Made from continuous silk threads from whole silk cocoons. The fibres are strong, elastic, and form an even, durable layer. It gives a luxurious and smooth feeling – and keeps its shape for many years.
- Short-fibred silk filling: Made from broken or shorter silk fibres, often leftover material from silk production. It is cheaper but somewhat less durable and can feel a little looser or more “cottony.”
An important misunderstanding
Many believe that there is smooth silk fabric inside a silk pillow – like what is known from silk bed linen.
But in fact, the filling consists of many layers of fine silk fibres that together form a natural, airy, and insulating material. It looks more like a thin, light wadding than a smooth piece of cloth.

Cillouettes is a Danish silk universe
Cillouettes was founded when several of our acquaintances and friends of friends had suffered from atopic skin, which placed great demands on the fabrics that come into contact with the skin. Silk, in particular, is a fabric that the skin has always thrived especially well with.
In recent years, people have become aware of the many other benefits that silk provides. Temperature-regulating, antibacterial, and allergy-friendly effects – to name just a few. At Cillouettes, we want everyone to have the opportunity to experience these benefits.
