How to wash silk?
- Preparation: Start by turning your silk bedding inside out and closing the zipper. Additionally, a laundry bag is recommended.
- Separation: Keep your silk bedding separate from other textiles, especially those with sharp zippers or hard materials that can scratch the silk.
- Temperature: Use cold water to wash silk bedding. Warm water can damage the fibers and cause shrinkage or color loss. (30 degrees)
- Mild detergent: Use a mild detergent designed for delicate fabrics. Avoid bleach or strong chemicals, as they can damage the silk.
- Hand wash or gentle wash: You can either hand wash the silk bedding or use a gentle cycle in your washing machine. If you use a washing machine, choose a gentle program with low spin to avoid stretching or damaging the fabric.
- Rinsing: For hand washing - rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residues. You can repeat rinsing several times to be sure all soap is gone.
- Drying: Avoid wringing or stretching the silk bedding during drying. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and then let it air dry on a flat surface or hang it on a hanger. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause discoloration.
- Ironing: If necessary, you can iron your silk bedding on low heat, preferably on the inside to avoid direct contact with the heat.
With these steps, you can easily keep your silk bedding clean and in good condition!
Cillouettes mulberry silk pillowcase is verified with an OEKO-TEX certificate next to the washing label. This guarantees that our textiles have been tested for harmful substances and are therefore harmless to your health.
Silk has a temperature-regulating property, which guarantees that you get a comfortable temperature when you sleep, whether it is 0 or 25 degrees outside. If you suffer from sleep difficulties due to hot nights or itching and dry skin, then silk is therefore ideal for you. Furthermore, silk is known to be anti-allergenic, so it is an obvious choice if you are allergic or suffer from asthma.
Most people sleep on a cotton pillowcase, but did you know that after only 3 days there are as many bacteria on your pillowcase as there are on a toilet seat?
Our silk pillowcases eliminate 99.7% of all bacteria. Silk is also naturally super soft, cooling, and allergy-friendly.
Satin is a specific weaving technique and is often made from polyester. This is a synthetic material that gives a static and scratchy feeling and is not as cool or soft as silk.

Although both silk and bamboo are soft and breathable materials, silk is the superior choice when it comes to comfort, skincare, and durability.
✔ Softer & smoother – Silk reduces friction against skin and hair, which prevents wrinkles and hair tangles. Bamboo has a coarser texture.
✔ Better for the skin – Silk retains the skin's moisture, while bamboo absorbs moisture and can dry out the skin.
✔ Temperature regulating – Silk keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter, while bamboo can feel heavier and clammy.
✔ More luxurious & durable – Silk retains its smoothness for years, while bamboo wears out faster.
Bamboo is a fine choice, but if you want the ultimate luxury for your skin, your hair, and your sleep – choose genuine mulberry silk!
